New Year Goals :Why living a reactionary life can be dangerous in 2018

Small deeds done are better than great deeds planned. — Peter Marshall

Happy New Year! It’s 2018 y’all! We made it here! It’s unbelievable another year has truly gone by and with all the highs and lows, we have another chance to be our best selves. With that comes re-editing of our resolution list. We come up with so many things we want to do differently or want to achieve.

For me, I have just one simple rule this year. I end living a reactionary life. For me what means is that I stop waiting for things to happen for me or to me. It means acting on an idea, or making a move even when you don’t know where it will lead you.
I think many of us, tend to wait for things to take a natural course. After all, it’s really the only way to manage our expectations  from life.

Whether it’s a new relationship, a career move or a new venture, many of us tend to wait for a helping hand or for someone else to notice our worth. Is it any surprise we spend hours in a church hoping for a miracle? What I have learned in the past year is that a huge project is really just a collection of small actions and tasks we take on everyday. It takes one action at a time to get to your final goal.

My faith tells me that I have only to ask and I shall receive yet the same faith preaches the essence of being bold and stepping out in faith even if it is the unknown.

In our relationships, it’s easy to get sucked in by the other’s wiles. When we are in love, we risk the danger of easily becoming a puppet on a string. Believe me, i know. What i have learned in that department, is to never loose yourself completely. A relationship is more complete, more fulfilling when you are aware of who you are and what your goals are. If there are changes to make, then by all means try.

Don’t be afraid to pause and ask if career-wise, you are on the path you truly desire?I know, I am just as convinced as you are, that we are in system that stifles creativity and growth. Hell, between  the struggles of electricity, transport, gas, and water, we have barely enough time to pause and get thinking. But, there has never been a more exciting time to be on the African continent.  Youth Entrepreneurship is steadily rising . Africans as at 2015 had the highest percentage of young entrepreneurs.  Marketing online has never been this accessible. In other words, what could we possibly be waiting for?

When the opportunity arises, travel, go somewhere you’ve never bothered to look into, even if it’s in your own backyard, Ghana. Make the first call. Ask for help if you feel you need it. Support causes you believe in. Surround yourself with like-minded people who welcome your motivation just as you need theirs
We under-appreciate the impact of collaboration. We live with our guard up so long we become paranoid of knowing when to just live a little. I truly now believe that life is so precious and fleeting that we must make EVERY moment count.

By all means, make a plan, write a list, keep timelines. But I say that in 2018, lets find more reasons to say Yes than No. Even if it doesn’t appear to fall within your planned projections. Take a chance.
